Friendship: The Highest People Value
This article is dedicated to friends - the founders and caretakers of The
Sideroad. Opening this with a heart-felt "thank you" is a pleasure! It's very
easy to deliver this to Heather and Mike, The Sideroad "parents" and their
staff.
The Sideroad was founded partly on curiosity, a sense of (web) adventure, and
in a collaborative spirit. If anything, Heather and Mike epitomize what the
Web has become famous for symbolizing:
- willingness to contribute
- willingness to share
- high standard for content, presentation, and accessibility.
All of these are also earmarks of priceless friendship - so it's no surprise
they've been so successful in drawing columnists and a loyal following to this
site.
We are grateful for the opportunity to be part of the family and friends
of this group. A few weeks back, we presented the ABC's of Friendship.
We are closing this article and this column as we opened it - with gratitude,
and a few appreciated quotes.
Always be honest.
The elegance of honesty needs no adornment.

Be there when they need you.
When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most to us,
we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or
cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm
and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair
or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who
can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality
of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.
~ Henri Nouwen ~
